my detox/cleanse

Even though “detoxing” and/or “cleansing” are all the rage right now I’ve, uhhhhh, never been tempted. That said, I really have been amazed at the difference getting enough sleep three nights in a row has made in my life…so I’m doing an experiment:
This weekend I’m doing whatever I want, moment to moment, all weekend long.
This is a particularly good weekend for the experiment because I have no plans whatsoever (by choice, don’t worry about me), I did my laundry on Tuesday and I have stuff I should maybe do if I feel like it but nothing I have to do.
I’m going to blog the whole thing to keep myself honest. I know Twitter would be more appropriate but I don’t have one of those and, besides, I’m supposed to be doing what I want and I don’t want to twit, tweet or any such thing.
Friday
5:15 pm: Left work 15 minutes early. Stared off into space on train instead of reading book.
5:45 pm: Got off train and headed straight to Rite-Aid for marathon semi-annual replace-all-the-stuff-in-my-bathroom trip. Spent 45 minutes there! (Do I want a pink or light green toothbrush? Do I want lipgloss? Ooh, headphones. Should replace. Etc. etc.) Spent $70, which was better than I expected since I had to replace my tweezers, too.
6:35 pm: Got home and tossed some stuff from my make-up bag and my old toothbrush, put new stuff away. Yes, this is what I felt like doing! I also ate a piece of chocolate. (Bought Ghiradelli milk chocolate and peanut butter squares at Rite-Aid, too.)
6:50 pm: Checked e-mail and read, but did not respond to stuff.
7:00 pm: Worked out for half an hour. I know, this does not sound very do what you want-y, but it turns out that I actually felt like working out. All week long I was doing the guilt-excuse tug ‘o war and excuses won. Funny.
7:40 pm: Did not shower or take off workout clothes. Ha! Ate another piece of chocolate. Talked on the phone for about 25 minutes.
8:05 pm: Made dinner. I had a Hot Pocket and Goldfish crackers, which is easily one of my favorite dinners on Earth. I think a lot of people would be shocked and maybe disappointed to learn this, because I’m definitely Someone Who Cares About Food and also I’m a pretty good cook.
8:15 pm: Took a bath. Used both bubble bath and grapefruit soak stuff pictured above.
8:50 pm: Put on pajamas and watched two episodes of “Mad Men” and an episode of “Cribs” I had on the TiVo. Then sleep.
Saturday
9:40 am: Got up. That was the latest I’ve slept in for a really long time, and yay!
10:00 am: Walked down to the farmers’ market and bought some flowers.
10:45 am: Came home, put flowers in glass jar. Ate another yuppie peanut butter cup. Read total crap on the internet.
11:05 am: Wanted an apricot, so I went out to the fruit stand. They didn’t have any. Went to the grocery store. They didn’t have any either. I settled for bananas, peaches and strawberries instead.
11:40 am: Came home, put groceries away, resolved to be lazier. Read Marie Claire.
12:15 pm: Took a shower and ate lunch. (Strawberries + banana + Hot Pocket + Goldfish. Yayyyy!)
1:00 pm: Crap. Started working on a short story I’ve been writing. Decided it was way too New Yorker-y and abandoned it to start a new one. Took breaks for: bath, Diet Pepsi run, article about Lindsay Lohan in Marie Claire, ten minute phone conversation with my mom. Finished story! But also broke the rules of detox/cleanse because did I really feel like working on my story for seven fucking hours? No. But I love the story so I’m happy now!
8:00 pm: Stared off into space for half an hour. Read crap on the internet.
9:00 pm: Ate dinner then watched “Mad Men” until bedtime.
Sunday
9:15 am: Got up, took a bath, read some news stories online and then lay down on the couch with a book.
12:20 pm: Ate lunch and wrote a really long e-mail to my friend A.
1:30 pm: Read some more of my book, texted for a while…felt kind of bored actually. Started watching “The Starter Wife” on Hulu and cannot look away. It’s awful, but it’s great.
5:45 pm: Started braising some kale to go with dinner. Planning ahead…is that against the rules? Not sure. Looked at jewelry on the internet.
6:20 pm: Called my friend M. He did not pick up. Looked at some more jewelry on the internet, then watched more “Starter Wife.”
9:25 pm: Talked to M for about an hour then watched the rest of “The Starter Wife”…all six parts in one day. Shame! Shame! Bed.
